Whether upgrading a single pole or rebuilding infrastructure, DTE Energy remains dedicated to enhancing the performance and reliability of our electrical grid.

In Pontiac, DTE is investing over $31 million to rebuild portions of the local grid. This multi-year project includes installing new poles, wires, transformers, cross arms, and connectors, along with major substation upgrades. These improvements will significantly strengthen the grid and boost reliability across Pontiac.

Recently, at the corner of Woodward Avenue and Carter Street, our crews were inspecting transformers, to see if they were in need of a replacement. This work is crucial to the effectiveness of the Pontiac rebuild. If there is a need to replace, then crews will return to the site and perform that task. Work like this will drastically increase the performance of the local grid, especially during extreme weather situations.

Strengthening our infrastructure is crucial for reducing outages and improving grid resilience. Through investments in advanced technologies, we can effectively meet future energy demands and deliver reliable, uninterrupted service to our customers.

DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.

Rebuilds, like in Pontiac, are part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, also includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure and trimming trees.
