DTE Energy is building a smarter grid by upgrading and modernizing our current infrastructure. That can range from isolated upgrades one particular pole, or a larger project with hundreds of power poles being serviced.
In the city of Wayne, at the corner of John Street and Second Street, our crews have begun working on a large project that will see the entire neighborhood receiving upgrades. This pre-conversion work will see numerous new poles, cross arms, transformers, and connectors installed to the area to greatly improve the stability of the electrical service in the area. Customers can expect to see a boost in the overall performance of the grid, especially during extreme weather situations.
Modernizing infrastructure is crucial for reducing outages and enhancing grid resilience. DTE is upgrading equipment to ensure the energy system meets future demands, delivering consistent and reliable service to customers.
DTE is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.
Upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
