DTE Energy remains laser focused on building a stronger grid. We accomplish this goal, in part, by identifying equipment in the field that is in need of upgrades.

This brought our crews recently to northwest Ann Arbor, at the corner of Miller Avenue and Saunders Crescent, where we installed new wire to the area. The new wire will run along the tops of six power poles to improve both the equipment durability and reliability in the area. By making these types of upgrades across our service territory, we are improving the overall performance of the grid. This performance upgrade will be seen by our customers in the day-to-day demand for electrical service, but especially during extreme weather situations.

DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.

Upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
