DTE Energy is committed to building a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid. That commitment extends to reducing power outages by 30% and cutting outage durations in half by the end of 2029.

That’s why DTE crews were out in Ann Arbor on Watershed Drive near Green Road, working hard to update equipment to help make sure the lights stay on. The team was replacing primary cable on the equipment that provides power to this neighborhood.

The cable the team was replacing had been underground for more than 30 years and has seen numerous repairs over the decades. Plus, the new cable is jacketed, which means it is more resistant to damage than the older cable.

“This will help with reliability,” one of the crew members said. “This cable was in the ground so long and had seen many repair jobs. Now, it’s brand new and should be good for another few decades.”

When the work in this neighborhood is complete, customers will have all new cable serving them, ensuring that electric service is something residents can count on for years to come.

DTE is committed to building the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
