DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by 2029.
As our work to build a stronger grid continues, crews have been busy inspecting and identifying equipment that needs upgrading in Detroit. Our crews will locate equipment in an area and thoroughly inspect that gear. Sometimes all a power pole needs are new cross arms or connectors, while others will need a full upgrade of all pole-top equipment.
Recently, our crews were installing these upgrades at the corner of Plymouth Road and Ohio Avenue on the west side of Detroit. This location was receiving a brand-new pole with all the accompanying pole top upgrades. These new additions will improve the reliability in the area, especially during extreme weather situations.
These infrastructure upgrades are vital to achieving our goal of reducing outages. Upgrading equipment is a key part of our strategy to strengthen and enhance the reliability of the grid. DTE will continue these efforts, not only to improve reliability but also to meet the growing demand for electricity in the years ahead.
Upgrading work is one part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
