DTE Energy continues its efforts toward building a stronger grid. This work brought our crews to the corner of Keeler Street and Chapel Street in Detroit, in the Brightmoor neighborhood.

Here, our crews are in the middle of upgrading all of the power poles in this neighborhood. New poles, cross arms, connectors, and transformers are being brought in to boost reliability. Upgrades such as this are happening across our service territory, and doing so will bring improvement to electrical performance across the entirety of our grid. Those living in the areas where these upgrades are taking place will see an immediate increase in performance, especially during extreme weather situations.

Upgrading our infrastructure is vital for reducing outages and reinforcing grid resilience. By making strategic investments in advanced technologies, we can effectively address future energy demands and provide our customers with reliable, uninterrupted service.

DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.

Upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
