Michigan’s largest wind park, Meridian Wind, is now online! Spanning three townships across Midland and Saginaw counties, Meridian Wind’s 77 turbines are generating enough clean energy to power more than 78,000 homes. With the addition of Meridian Wind, DTE now has 19 wind parks and 33 solar parks in its renewable energy portfolio, which together generate enough clean energy to power more than 750,000 homes. By 2042, the company plans to add enough renewable energy sources to power more than four million homes.

“DTE is committed to aggressively growing its renewable energy portfolio as part of its plan to transition Michigan to cleaner sources of energy,” said Brian Calka, vice president, Renewable Energy Sales and Project Development, DTE. “We know this is the right thing to do for our customers, our company and our communities.”

Meridian Wind represents a major investment in the communities surrounding the project. Meridian will bring in millions of dollars of additional tax revenue to Midland and Saginaw counties over the life of the project, and more than 700 local landowners are receiving added income from hosting wind turbines on their property. We also ensured that Meridian was almost entirely Michigan-made, with about 200 local contractors on site every day during construction. Additionally, DTE has been an active community partner from the start of Meridian’s development, volunteering with and supporting more than 75 local organizations.

“I want to thank our friends at DTE for their partnership in getting this project completed and operational,” said JoAnn Crary, president of Saginaw Future. “We have been involved with Meridian from the beginning and know it will be a catalyst for continued economic growth in our area.”

Meridian Wind is a major accomplishment not just for DTE, but for the state of Michigan as a whole. It required collaboration from various facets of both DTE and of Saginaw and Midland counties. We can’t achieve our clean energy goals alone, and Meridian has been an outstanding exemplifier of what we can accomplish when we work together.
