DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by 2029.

As part of our ongoing efforts, crews have been actively working in Madison Heights, particularly at the intersection of John R Road and W. Hudson Avenue. Here, and in the surrounding neighborhoods, our crews are working to harden the grid. Specifically, they recently installed a new power pole along with essential pole top equipment. Similar installations are taking place throughout Madison Heights, guided by assessments from our front-line teams.

These upgrades aim to better equip the grid to handle the rising electrical demands of our customers, improve performance, and increase reliability during extreme weather, leading to fewer outages and quicker restoration times. Replacing and upgrading our current infrastructure is essential to our plan for building a stronger and more dependable grid.

This upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
