DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by 2029.
As we continue to work towards building a stronger grid, our crews have been busy with the installation of a few new steel poles in Ann Arbor Township. This specific location, at the intersection of Dixboro Road and Amanda Drive, sees the installation of two brand new steel poles with the accompanying pole top gear. This location was previously identified to contain equipment with the potential for failure in the future so the decision was made to replace that equipment now.
New cable will be installed in the area as well as the new poles coming to the area, due for upgrading as well. This work, along with more scheduled in the area, will greatly improve the performance. These upgrades are expected to perform better during extreme weather situations.
These infrastructure upgrades are vital to our objective of minimizing outages and improving the grid’s resilience and reliability. By upgrading our equipment, DTE is reinforcing the existing system and preparing to accommodate the increasing electricity demands of the future.
Upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
