As a part of DTE’s initiative towards building a stronger grid, our crews have been busy in Detroit continuing their work on a large project happening there.
At the corner of Lafayette Boulevard and 18th Street, in the West Riverfront neighborhood, our crews have recently been installing multiple new poles as part of the voltage conversion project happening in the area.
The project that will see over 30 miles of poles, power lines, transformers and electrical equipment be installed by 2027. This project will also see tree trimming along power lines and the installation of new smart grid technology. This $150 million investment aims to rebuild the infrastructure that delivers power to homes and businesses in Corktown and here, as well, in the West Riverfront area of the city.
Investing in infrastructure upgrades is essential to reducing outages and strengthening grid resilience. By adopting advanced technology, we are equipped to meet future energy demands and ensure reliable, consistent service for our customers.
DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.
This upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
