DTE Energy is laser focused on building a stronger grid for the communities we serve.
That effort is at the core of the major grid rebuilding happening around Midtown and Brush Park in Detroit.
Here, in the shadow of Little Caesar’s Arena at Clifford Street and Henry Street, reliability will be improved for customers in the areas nearby. Our crews have been busy installing brand-new net banks on overhead platforms.
What are “net banks” and how do they function? A net bank is a large quantity of transformers that are placed together, to help with the heavy and growing electrical load of customers, and to provide improved service.
This work is just one part of a $10 million investment by DTE to fully rebuild 25 miles of the grid in this area of the city. This commitment to providing more reliable service will see many more upgrades coming, which will result in a better performing grid. In areas where full rebuilding work is completed, customers experience a 90% improvement in reliability.
DTE is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.
This rebuilding work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, also includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure and trimming trees.
