As the city of Detroit continues to grow and evolve, it’s vital that residents and businesses have the reliable power they need and deserve. That’s why DTE Energy is building the grid of the future right here in the city. We are investing $80 million to rebuild 25 miles of infrastructure in Detroit’s Brewster Homes, Brush Park, Douglas and southern Midtown neighborhoods from 2019 to 2026.
This means we’re replacing the old infrastructure with all new power lines, conduit, transformers and other electrical equipment that deliver power to customers. The work is nearly finished and will result in better power quality for homes and businesses in the area. It will also add capacity to the electric grid to support future growth and increased demand, including the use of electric vehicles.

Crews finished rebuilding the infrastructure in Detroit’s Brewster Homes, Douglas and southern Midtown neighborhoods. They are now being served by the upgraded substation and equipment.
2021-2024
We installed new conduit, cables, transformers and electric infrastructure in Detroit’s Brewster Homes, Douglas and southern Midtown neighborhoods. The new equipment is stronger and more resilient.
Rebuilding projects like this will help us reach our commitment to reducing power outages by 30% while cutting outage times in half by 2029. In addition to rebuilding, we’re also transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure and trimming trees. All this will help us build a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid of the future.
