DTE is determined to build a stronger grid by upgrading our current infrastructure with new, more durable replacements.

This brought our crews recently to Inkster to implement some of these upgrades. Specifically at the corner of Parkwood Street and Eastern Avenue, our crews were installing some new pole top equipment to the poles here. Several poles in the neighborhood are set to be upgraded and each pole that is on our crew’s list to upgrade gets a different upgrade. Some poles require a new cross arm or more durable switches, while others may get a new transformer. Each location has a different set of needs that our crews have determined and will be upgraded accordingly. Customers in the area can expect an increase in the performance of the grid, especially during extreme weather situations.

Upgrading infrastructure is crucial for reducing outages and improving grid resilience. By integrating advanced technology, we are prepared to meet future energy needs and ensure reliable, continuous service for our customers.

DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.

This upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
