DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by 2029.

As part of this commitment, we are working to make sure our customers in Ann Arbor experience fewer and shorter power outages. One way we will accomplish that is by upgrading our current infrastructure. Crews recently identified equipment at the corner of Overridge Drive and Bedford Road that was in need of an upgrade. That means new, more modern and durable equipment. This upgrade included new cross arms, power poles, connectors, and a transformer.

The new equipment will help us reduce outages in the area. 30 new power poles are also scheduled to be worked on and upgraded in the area. DTE will keep doing this kind of work to not only improve reliability, but to help with the greater demand for electricity and growing capacity needs in the years ahead.

This upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
