DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by 2029.

Our work towards building a stronger grid continues in and near Auburn Hills. On this day, our crews were busy implementing some pole top upgrades in the area around Lake Angelus. First, our tree trim crews come in and trim back some overhanging branches on trees that are deemed an issue with possibly contacting our equipment. Once the tree trimming work is completed, our front-line crews can go in and provide the necessary upgrades to more than 50 poles in the area.

These upgrades are mostly replacing the pole top cutouts currently installed along with new cross arms also being installed. These upgrades will increase the performance of the grid in the area with the most noticeable improvements during extreme weather situations.

These infrastructure upgrades are essential to our goal of reducing outages and enhancing the grid’s resilience and reliability. By modernizing our equipment, DTE is strengthening the current system and preparing to meet the growing electricity demands of the future. Our commitment to these initiatives guarantees that our customers will continue to receive the dependable service they rely on.

Upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
