DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by 2029.
As a part of our continued efforts to build a stronger grid, our crews are preparing for a future power conversion project in Westland. This conversion project aims to provide more reliable service as the need for electric services increases in the area. Specifically, at the corner of Norris Avenue and Parkwood Street, our crews were busy starting these upgrades. These will include both overhead and underground work such as new poles, transformers and new wire. On this day, our crews were installing a new cross arm to a pole that was due for such an upgrade.
Looking ahead, crews will slowly be making many of these types of upgrades in the area to ensure that our customers see as little interruption in their service as possible, and so we can provide them with better performing equipment, especially during extreme weather situations.
These infrastructure upgrades are crucial to our mission of minimizing outages and boosting the grid’s resilience and reliability. By updating our equipment, DTE is strengthening the existing system and gearing up to handle the rising electricity demands of the future. Our dedication to these initiatives ensures that our customers receive the more reliable service they expect and deserve.
This upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
