DTE Energy is laser focused on its commitment to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by 2029. That’s why DTE is hard at work building the grid of future in the city of Livonia.

Since the summer of 2023, we have been focused on advancing work to improve reliability for customers throughout this community. Recently, our crews were at the intersection of Schoolcraft Road and Levan Road, off I-96, making vital upgrades to our existing infrastructure.

Their focus was on installing more modernized transformers to meet 2024 standards, which involved replacing outdated disconnects and relocating the ground wire to the transformer. This work not only improves grid reliability but makes it safer for our crews working on site.

In Livonia, our front-line crews have found hundreds of locations like this where replacing defective or older equipment was needed. After inspecting many miles in the city, power poles were recently replaced and new fiberglass crossarms were installed along with other gear made of modern materials to better withstand extreme weather.

This work is part of our plan to build the grid of the future, which includes transitioning to a smart grid, updating existing infrastructure, rebuilding older sections of the grid and trimming trees. To stay informed about ongoing projects you can explore DTE Energy’s electric reliability improvements mapor visit Empowering Michigan’s reliability improvements webpage.
