DTE’s Huron Renewable Energy Center (HREC), located in Bad Axe, has become more than just a workplace. It’s a place where people can come together in community.
It started when the MSU Extension looked for a temporary facility to host their tai chi classes. “They’ve loved using our Discovery Center,” said Andrew Johnson, manager, Renewable Energy Operations.
Other local organizations soon began reaching out, including the Bad Axe Senior Retirees Club (BASRC), which recently hosted a movie event for its members at the HREC.
“We’re happy to support a cause like this, even just by providing space,” said Johnson. “We can create opportunities for these folks, get them out of the house, make sure they’re not lonely – give them a place they’re comfortable in to connect with friends.”
The movie event was a huge success, with the BASRC members “amazed at the quality of the programming and the facility,” said Dan Glaza, club president.
“I want to express my gratitude to the whole team who helped make this happen,” said Glaza. “Their technical know-how and hospitality were a pleasure to see in action. They all took time out of their busy workday to cater to us, and it was much appreciated.”
