We’re continuing to implement our four-point plan for improving reliability throughout Wayne County, including trimming trees, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding older sections of the grid and accelerating our transition to a smart grid.
Crews were recently in downtown Inkster replacing four poles from top to bottom. This job included swapping out old, weathered poles with stronger poles that can better withstand extreme weather and installing new transformers and attached equipment. The new transformers will improve the quality and reliability of the energy that is being drawn from our Inkster substation and delivered to the community.
The job pictured took place at the intersection of Beech Street and Harrison Street and continued over several days.
The first step of this job was to drill a hole and place the new pole in the ground. After this, the crew transferred equipment, such as insulators, crossarms, transformers and wires, onto the new pole. Crews then safely removed the old pole. They repeated this process for all four of the poles over the course of a few days. This work will help us deliver safer, more reliable power to our thousands of customers in Inkster.
