Family Assistance for Renaissance Men (FARM), a Detroit-based nonprofit, is dedicated to helping fathers rebuild their lives and reconnect with their families. Founded by Willie Bell, FARM provides vital support to fathers facing personal and financial challenges. Since 2016, DTE Energy has partnered with FARM, offering crucial assistance to ensure these fathers have the resources they need to succeed.
For many fathers in FARM’s program, financial struggles have meant difficulty keeping up with utility bills. When fathers face service disruptions, DTE steps in to help. “Whenever a father in our program needs assistance with their utility services, DTE is always there,” said Bell. “We have a direct line for help, and DTE’s response is quick and reliable. They’ve been a steady, supportive partner, working behind the scenes to make a real difference.”
Beyond immediate assistance, DTE supports FARM’s workforce development efforts, providing training in renovation, plumbing and electrical work—skills that open doors for these fathers to secure employment and contribute to their communities. “Our partnership with DTE is about giving fathers the support they need today and the skills they need for tomorrow,” Bell said. “We’re proud to have DTE by our side, building pathways to a brighter future for families across Detroit.” DTE has given out $700 million in energy assistance over the past five years.
