DTE Energy is dedicated to helping school districts across Michigan achieve their electrification goals, and a key way for school districts to do this is through school bus electrification. DTE’s EV team offers free advisory services through their eFleet Charger Rebate Program to assist with the application of federal grants to electrify school bus fleets. The team also provides school districts with cost savings and carbon-reduction reports, electrical engineering planning, and the installation of the electric vehicle (EV) chargers that power the electric buses. To date, DTE has helped nearly one dozen school districts secure over 100 all-electric school buses through the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Clean School Bus Program.
The School District of the City of Pontiac (PSD) is a great example of one of the districts DTE has worked closely with to fully electrify their school bus fleet. In March, the DTE team joined in a celebration with PSD, the EPA and the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) in recognition of the district achieving this milestone.
“We are excited to celebrate the Pontiac school district fully electrifying their school bus fleet,” said Tony Tomczak, vice president, Electric Sales & Marketing, DTE Energy. “Our fleet advisory service team has been working with the district for more than a year on these grants by analyzing future cost-savings, modeling carbon reduction targets and charging infrastructure design to hook these 40 buses to the grid. This is a great day for Pontiac and our state as we make progress on our shared sustainability goals.”
