Not only do frontline workers put their health at risk daily, but they also face the burdens that have jolted many of us due to the virus. We’re doing our part to make sure those that serve us the most have the resources they need to stay healthy and financially stable during the pandemic by providing resources for families and individuals.
As the need for PPE for our frontline workers became apparent, we activated our worldwide supplier network to support the delivery of two million kN95 masks to frontline workers across Michigan. Masks were distributed to hospitals throughout metropolitan Detroit as well as the Detroit Police Department and Highland Park Police Department.
One of our frontline heroes shared her appreciation to receive a kN95 mask during such a crucial shortage.
“As a nurse tending to COVID-19 patients, I am so thankful for members of the community stepping up to help provide supplies during our greatest need. Thank you, DTE Foundation,” said Danielle Fairchild, a Beaumont nurse.
Together, we have matched $1.3 million in donations to non-profit organizations to help more than 500,000 families sustain their basic needs such as food and household items. DTE plans to provide up to $40 million in utility relief this summer to ease the financial strain due to recent changes in employment. In addition, we’ve helped bridge the digital divide in Detroit by partnering with other leaders to provide high-speed internet connection and donate 51,000 tablets to all Detroit Public School Community District (DPSCD) students to learn from home.
The sacrifice of our frontline workers in all industries has been invaluable to our health and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic. Each day, medical practitioners, police officers, firefighters and more bravely serve the public. We want them to know that their work in this time of crisis has not gone unnoticed.
