DTE Energy is laser focused on building a stronger grid across the communities we serve. That includes ensuring that trees and branches do not come into contact with our electrical equipment.

Recently, at the corner of Sylvan Avenue and Grayson Street in Ferndale, our crews were preparing for a tree trimming team to come in and clean up some branches and limbs, limiting risk to equipment in the area. A large part of our plan to build a stronger grid is to have our crews out in the field finding equipment that needs an upgrade. In this case, our team identified that there were trees in the area that were potential risks to the equipment being upgraded, so tree trimming was needed first.

Trimming trees such as this makes for a better performing grid, especially during extreme weather situations.

Upgrading infrastructure is essential for reducing outages and enhancing grid resilience and reliability. By modernizing equipment, DTE is strengthening the system to meet future energy demands. Our commitment to these improvements ensures customers receive reliable service well into the future.

DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.

Upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
