Natural gas is both economical and efficient – but there are many other reasons why natural gas is a smart energy choice. Let’s walk through some of the benefits natural gas brings to your home and share how we work every day to deliver natural gas safely, reliably and affordably for you.

  1. We buy ahead to keep it affordable.

Did you know we bill you the amount we pay for natural gas with no markup added – which means you pay what we pay? Our company locks in natural gas prices up to three years in advance, which protects you from sudden price spikes by smoothing out the highs and lows of supply in demand. We also buy more gas than you use in the summer and store it underground, so natural gas is available when you need it in the winter.

  1. We’re modernizing our natural gas system to enhance your service.

We are replacing more than 200 miles of natural gas lines per year with modern, more durable pipes. This work, which will continue through 2035, will help ensure we safely and reliably deliver the natural gas our 1.2 million natural gas customers depend on. Plus, the new pipes are much more efficient than the ones they replace – this work will be the equivalent of preventing 500,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide from reaching the atmosphere, the equivalent of taking 100,000 cars off the road.

  1. We’re decreasing our carbon footprint… and providing ways for you to as well.

DTE Gas plans to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 – from the ground to your home. We are taking everyone on this journey – from our natural gas suppliers to our internal crews, to customers like you as we head toward this goal.

We are partnering with customers to balance up to 100% of an average home’s greenhouse gas emissions through our program called CleanVision Natural Gas Balance. This program helps you address your own carbon footprint while supporting Michigan’s forests and renewable natural gas development.

  1. It can do much more than heat your home.

You’re probably already using natural gas to warm your home, heat your water, dry your clothes and cook your food. But did you know you can also use it to fuel new features to add coziness and convenience to your home like a gas fireplace and grill? Check out some natural gas uses you may have never considered before.
