DTE Energy is laser-focused on building a stronger electric grid. One of the ways we are working to accomplish this goal is by upgrading our existing infrastructure.

Our crews have been busy in the field identifying where these upgrades should take place and then executing the plans. At the corner of Owen Street and Sumpter Road in Belleville, our crews have been in the process of installing over 5 brand new power poles, along with upgraded cross arms, connectors, and a piece of smart grid technology called a recloser. A recloser will be able to help isolate an outage, if one were to occur, and ensure that power restoration is both quicker and safer. Once all the poles are installed, our crews will finish the work here by installing new wire to round off the upgrades in the area. These will provide increased performance from our grid in the area, especially during extreme weather situations.

DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.

Upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
