As DTE Energy works to strengthen its grid, our team focuses on identifying equipment that needs upgrading or replacement. For overhead lines, this work can include installing new power poles, cross arms, transformers, or even wiring.
Recently, our crews were at the corner of Whittier Avenue and Chaucer Avenue in Madison Heights. They installed a brand-new power pole, along with new pole top connectors. The service will then be transferred to the new pole, and the old pole removed, to complete the work at this location. Jobs like this are happening across the communities we serve as we build a stronger, more reliable grid. This work will increase performance across the board, especially during extreme weather situations.
DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by 2029.
Upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
