DTE Energy is laser-focused on building a stronger grid. This will be accomplished, in part, by upgrading key portions of our current infrastructure.

Our crews were recently at the corner of Pontiac Trail and Maple Road in Walled Lake, where some upgrades needed to be carried out. Specifically, three new poles have recently been installed in the area, as well as the accompanying pole top upgrades such as new cross arms and connectors also being installed. There are currently 63 locations in the area that are scheduled to be upgraded with either a brand new pole, installing new pole top equipment, or both. These upgrades will work to provide more reliable service for our customers in Walled Lake and surrounding areas and performance of the grid here will be greatly improved, especially during extreme weather situations.

Upgrading infrastructure is essential for minimizing outages and enhancing grid resilience. DTE is modernizing its equipment to meet future energy demands, providing customers with consistent and reliable service.

DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.

This upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
