DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by 2029.

As our efforts building a stronger grid continue, DTE crews in Westland are planning on servicing over 130 power poles soon. To help increase the reliability of our equipment in the area, crews have been busy identifying poles that need upgrades. Recently, this work brought them to the corner of Steinhauer Avenue and Filbert Avenue, where our crews were busy executing these upgrades. A new pole was placed into the ground, along with accompanying pole top equipment, such as cross arms and connectors. These upgrades aim to improve the stability of the grid overall and by servicing these poles, our customers in the area will be able to notice a positive difference. These upgrades will increase the performance of the grid overall but especially during extreme weather.

This upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
