DTE tree trimmers were out in Detroit near the railroad on Plymouth and Weaver St, removing overgrown branches. Tree limbs that interfere with power lines can create a safety hazard, as well as an unstable power connection. Tree trimming maintenance reduces the chances of power outages caused by inclement weather, keeping Detroiters in power when they need it most.
In late 2021, DTE made a $90 million investment to accelerate its tree trimming efforts across the communities it serves to prevent outages during heavy storms. You can read more about that initiative here.
Highlights include:
- Accelerating tree trimming work for the communities hardest hit by recent storms last fall
- Providing additional funds to our ongoing tree trimming program, resulting in an additional 3,500 line miles of trees trimmed. We have already trimmed 20,000 miles more aggressively, which is almost one time around the world!
- Increasing our tree trim workforce by 30%

You may see more of our crews in the coming months as part of our accelerated electric reliability projects in your area, including more tree trimming and infrastructure updates. All these projects are underway to improve your service and reliability for the short- and long term.
