We understand that the federal government shutdown may have created unexpected financial challenges for federal workers here in Michigan. We want to help.

Starting Wednesday, Nov. 12, federal employees can request a 30-day pause on bill collection. This temporary hold is designed to provide relief and ease financial stress for federal workers waiting for their pay to restart.

To request a collection hold, call DTE at (800) 477-4747. We’re available Monday – Friday between 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. to coordinate this assistance. Customers will need to provide documentation showing they or a member of their household is a federal employee. Accepted documents include:

  • Recent pay stub
  • W2
  • Furlough letter
  • Federal Employee ID

A license or state ID may be requested if the federal employee is not the primary account holder.

If you think you may have trouble paying an upcoming bill, reach out to us as soon as possible. The earlier we hear from you, the better we can support your needs. Learn more about our assistance programs at dteenergy.com/help
