DTE Energy is always planning for the future. By investing in its natural gas system today, the company ensures Michigan communities are positioned for growth tomorrow. Residents are seeing that payoff in Grand Traverse County, where steady population and business growth are fueling an increased demand for natural gas.
“Our residents rely on natural gas every day and want to know their homes will stay warm, even in the middle of winter,” said Nate Alger, Grand Traverse County Administrator.
DTE worked alongside Grand Traverse County to install a two-way natural gas line that runs through multiple townships in northwest Michigan, ensuring the counties always have reliable gas service even if one line experiences an issue. The main natural gas system that fuels much of northern Michigan is now even safer, more resilient and built to sustain growth in communities for decades to come.
The county is seeing population and tourism climb year-over-year, which has led to the expansion of its government campus and services in Garfield Township. The construction is taking place directly over DTE’s major gas line, so Grand Traverse county leadership has worked hand-in-hand with DTE to ensure all of the county’s construction work is conducted safely to avoid any natural gas service interruptions for residents and businesses.
“When you’re constructing new buildings like we are at our campus and crossing over a main gas line, you want to be absolutely certain everything is done right,” said Alger. “The coordination and back-and-forth with DTE has been fantastic, and our community has peace of mind knowing they’ll continue to have uninterrupted natural gas to their homes and businesses.”
As the county’s footprint grows, leaders recognize the importance of working closely with a partner like DTE to ensure energy infrastructure keeps pace, helping to enable economic growth and prosperity.
