Neighbors stopped and waved while out for their daily walks as DTE Energy crews worked to install a new pole at Towner and Dorchester roads on the southeast side of Ann Arbor, greeting the team and the improved electric infrastructure with a smile.

The new pole and its accompanying equipment is all part of DTE’s commitment to building a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. This work – as well as work across southeastern Michigan – will help DTE reach its commitment to reduce power outages by 30% and cut outage durations in half by 2029.

This particular pole replacement was accompanied by a complete reconductor for subtransmission and distribution, giving this neighborhood new and better performing equipment to help weather the more extreme storms that are hitting the area more frequently.

This new, more modern equipment will help fortify the existing system and help meet the growing electricity demands of today and beyond.

Improvements like this is all a part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. This plan, well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and continuing to trim trees.

Soon, the neighbors who waved to the crews while they worked will reap the benefits of these improvements as we do the necessary work to deliver the more dependable service they expect.
