DTE has delivered safe, reliable and affordable natural gas to customers throughout Michigan for more than 175 years. Today, 1.3 million Michiganders rely on DTE Gas for the energy they need in their daily lives – helping them heat their homes, cook their favorite meals, warm their showers and dry their clothes.
DTE Gas employees are out working in the communities we serve every day. That’s because we’re committed to ensuring our gas system is able to keep delivering safe and reliable service now and for generations to come.
What we are doing every day
- System improvements: DTE is working in Detroit and other Michigan communities to upgrade the infrastructure that delivers the natural gas you depend on every day. As part of a multi-year Gas Renewal Program (GRP), crews are replacing steel and cast-iron pipes with more efficient, durable and environmentally friendly materials. In Detroit, crews are on track to install 75 miles of new pipes this year. See where we’re working at dteenergy.com/gas-map. We are also working towards relocating all indoor gas meters to exterior locations for customer convenience and safety. Outdoor meters give technicians easier access so they can perform more frequent safety checks and maintenance without having to enter a property. Also, in an emergency inside the home, gas can be shut off from outside to allow first responders to safely enter the property and perform their work
- Repairs & emergency response: This includes repairing any underground gas line leaks or damage and responding to all gas leaks and outages in a timely manner.
- Routine maintenance and inspections: Our crews inspect gas meters, check gas pipes for issues and maintain gas distribution equipment to ensure you continue to receive gas to your home or business safely and effectively.
If you’re out and about and see DTE Gas workers in your community, just know that they are working to give you the safe and reliable gas service you deserve.
