Reliable power is essential for keeping communities running. With climate change driving more frequent and destructive storms, DTE Energy is making significant investments to strengthen Livonia’s grid, improving service for residents and businesses. This is part of DTE’s plan to invest $10 billion over the next five years to modernize infrastructure, enhance reliability and build a more resilient energy system.

“We’re working hard to future-proof our city,” said Livonia Mayor Maureen Brosnan. “With DTE at the table, we can collectively discuss investments and upgrades that will strengthen reliability today and prepare our community for future growth.”

DTE’s grid modernization work, combined with less extreme weather, resulted in a 68% decrease in the time spent without power for Livonia customers from 2023 to 2024.

DTE is prioritizing upgrades to Livonia’s aging electrical infrastructure, especially in critical areas like emergency facilities, ensuring a more reliable and resilient power supply for the future. Over the past year, upgrades like pole replacements and tree trimming at 12 critical locations like the police and fire stations, the Livonia Public Library and senior facilities have boosted reliability.

During 2025, DTE plans to trim more than 40 miles of trees, replace approximately 300 poles and inspect 40 miles of electrical equipment that delivers power to Livonia. This work will help reduce storm-related damage and enhance reliability, keeping power steady for residents and businesses.

“Our partnership with DTE is a testament to what can be achieved when we work together toward a shared goal,” Mayor Brosnan said. “We’re on the right path, and there’s still more work ahead to ensure every corner of our city has the reliable power it needs.”

Ongoing improvements are about not only maintaining power but also modernizing the infrastructure to meet the city’s evolving needs. DTE is committed to an improvement plan that will bring visible upgrades to the power grid, reducing the number and length of power outages.
