As part of our commitment to delivering safe and more reliable power, DTE Energy is investing more than $28 million to modernize the electric infrastructure serving homes and businesses in the city of Wayne.
This major upgrade project, which DTE started in 2025 and expects to complete in 2026, includes:
- Installing 15 miles of new poles, power lines and electrical equipment designed to better withstand severe weather.
- Trimming or removing trees near power lines — since fallen trees account for nearly half of all power outages.
- Connecting customers to an upgraded electric substation that will support growing energy needs.
Once complete, these improvements are expected to boost electric reliability by up to 90% for customers served by the new infrastructure.
Beyond reliability, this project will also enhance safety, increase grid capacity and help support the transition to cleaner energy solutions like electric vehicles and energy efficient appliances.
Rebuilding work like this is one part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future, which also includes accelerating our transition to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure and tramming trees. Learn more about work happening in your neighborhood by visiting the DTE Power Improvements Map.
