Over the past 14 years, our company has prepared, packed and distributed meals to senior citizens during the holiday season, and this year was no different.
On Christmas morning, DTE team members across the state gathered to pack fresh food for homebound seniors in our communities through the Meals on Wheels program.
This effort was also supported by the DTE Foundation, which provided $155,000 in grants to benefit Senior Service Agencies across Michigan.
Together, 61 DTE team members volunteered and distributed nearly 17,000 meals across 20 cities – from metro Detroit all the way to Traverse City.
“I’ve been volunteering for Meals on Wheels since 2017, and it’s heartwarming knowing my co-workers take time during the holidays to help pack and deliver hot meals to those in need,” said Jorge Lopez, DTE work management specialist, Fleet Training and Warren Service Center Operations.
Prior to volunteering with Meals on Wheels, Jorge was also supporting DTE’s preparation for the winter storm, working to keep the community safe and restore power.
“The winter storm brought long days and bitter cold, but my drive to help the community through the storm and volunteerism was my motivation to get up early the next day and give back.”
