DTE crews were in Dearborn recently, near Ford and Schafer roads, continuing to make grid updates in response to weather-related damage to local electrical infrastructure.

Last summer, extreme weather caused the McGraw substation to flood, leaving nearby homes and businesses without power. Initially, crews installed diesel generators to restore power as soon as possible. This was a necessary temporary fix, but not a permanent solution.

Our team recently returned to install a portable substation, replacing the diesel generators as the neighborhood’s source of power. What is a portable substation? It is a self-contained trailer or container supplied with the vital voltage and equipment components of a full substation. This update is beneficial not only in improving reliability, but also in improving air quality and decreasing noise disturbances in the area.
