DTE Energy continues in the work to build a stronger grid of the future. There are many ways that we accomplish this goal, whether it’s the replacement of a single power pole, or the rebuilding of an entire section of our grid.
That’s what brought crews recently to Ypsilanti, at the corner of Grandview Drive and Oak Drive, where they began a major project to revamp the primary electrical equipment in this neighborhood. Here, over 40 new poles will be installed. These new poles are made of a more durable material as well as being taller, to maximize stability. Along with the new poles, brand new wire will be run along the top of the poles to round out the upgrades in the area. These upgrades will ensure a better performing grid, especially during extreme weather situations.
Improving our infrastructure is vital for reducing outages and enhancing grid resilience. Strategic investments in advanced technologies will enable us to meet future energy demands efficiently and provide our customers with reliable, uninterrupted service.
DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.
Upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
