This week, DTE was at the corner of Cleophus Parkway and Riopelle Avenue in Lincoln Park to install a new smart device on the grid. Working together with our advanced distribution management system, these smart devices, called reclosers, help reduce the frequency and duration of outages in two ways: by pinpointing the area of damage so crews can begin repairs faster and, second, by rerouting power for many customers so their lights stay on while crews are making repairs.

This upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, also includes transitioning to a smart grid, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and continuing to trim trees. Continuing to execute on this work will help DTE reduce outages by 30% while cutting outage duration times in half by the end of 2029.
