DTE Energy is dedicated to building a stronger grid. We are deploying crews every day to identify and make upgrades to equipment across our service territory.
In Ann Arbor, we are investing $18 Million in a major project to rebuild a portion of our grid. This project includes rebuilding eight miles of poles, power lines and electrical equipment, installing smart grid technology and trimming trees.
At the corner of Swift Street and Howley Court, our crews were in the process of preparing this current gear to be “decommissioned” so the rest of the upgrades in the area can take place. Previous underground work nearby is now tied into this new equipment that has recently been installed. Looking forward, crews will be back to install new steel poles in the area to better support the increased electrical demand. These upgrades will increase the performance of the grid overall, especially during extreme weather situations.
Modernizing our infrastructure is crucial for decreasing outages and enhancing grid resilience. With targeted investments in innovative technology, we are prepared to meet the energy demands of the future and provide our customers with reliable, consistent service.
DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.
This rebuilding work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
