✅Cooking Safely with DTE Natural Gas This Holiday Season

  • Natural gas offers precise & even heat, perfect for holiday cooking.
  • Whether you’re roasting, simmering, or sauteing, it’s a reliable choice for all your meals.
  • Here are a few tips to help you cook safely with natural gas this season.

Know Your Flame!

  • A strong blue flame means your burner is working properly!
  • Yellow or orange flames may signal a ventilation issue or incomplete combustion.

What else is Important?

Using the Right Cookware!

  • Match pot size to burner size.
  • Flames that extend beyond the pot or pan waste energy and can affect cooking performance.
  • Avoid any boil-overs, which can extinguish the flame while gas continues to flow.

Keep Your Range Clear!

  • Remove grease, food scraps, towels, plastic, and cords from around the stove. These can interfere with performance and increase the risk of gas leaks.

 Important! Recognizing Natural Gas Odor

  • Natural gas is odorless, but DTE adds a “rotten egg” scent to help detect leaks. If you smell gas and burners are off:
  • Leave the area immediately.
  • Call 911.
  • Then call DTE Energy at 800-947-5000. It’s a free service available 24/7 to all customers.

Also- watch for symptoms like dizziness or nausea that improve when you leave the house, as these may signal carbon monoxide exposure.

By keeping these tips top-of-mind, you and your family can enjoy a safe, fun and delicious cooking experience, ensuring this holiday season is one full of both food and good cheer!
