DTE overhead and underground crews have been working together in Bloomfield Hills recently upgrading utility poles and moving some primary lines underground. This work was done near the corner of Miller Way and Gilbert Lake Rd. You can see overhead crews replacing an old utility pole with an upgraded one complete with upgraded equipment which turns this pole into a cable pole. Cable poles are unique poles that connect the overhead system to the underground system. You can read more about them here.

For this job, underground crews follow the overhead team and install underground transformers and “bury the lines” for roughly a half dozen homes along Miller Way. This will improve reliability for the foreseeable future so that your power is there for you when you need it most.

You may see more of our crews in the coming months as part of our accelerated electric reliability projects in your area, including more tree trimming and infrastructure updates. All these projects are underway to improve your service and reliability for the short and long term.
