The storm passed. Your power is back on. What happens now? The teams at DTE Energy seamlessly transition from storm response to proactive planning and improvement work to help prevent future outages. We understand you may have questions about our reliability, work as well as lingering questions from the last storm. Here are the answers to your common post-storm questions.

Why did my power go out again?

After power has been restored to all impacted customers, our crews revisit sites where they made temporary fixes to install permanent repairs to boost reliability. The permanent fixes often require short, planned outages to safely complete the work.

What are you doing to prevent my power from going out again?

Our work isn’t complete when the power is back on. We’re investing more than $1.3 billion annually to build a smarter, stronger, modern grid system across our service territory. This work includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Constructing, modernizing and expanding new substations
  • Trimming trees along the power lines that deliver energy to your home or business
  • Upgrading and replacing electrical equipment and poles
  • Reconfiguring and relocating power lines
  • Incorporating preventative inspections and maintenance

This work will improve electrical reliability, make infrastructure more resilient during severe weather, increase safety and help us meet your growing energy needs now and in the future.
