In late 2024, we broke ground on our new Trenton Channel Energy Center, which is expected to be the largest standalone battery energy storage project in the Great Lakes region when it comes online in the next few months.
Today, we have something new to celebrate: the American Clean Power Association (ACP) awarded Trenton Channel Energy Center “Project of the Year” at their annual energy storage conference.
“DTE’s Trenton Channel project is a fantastic example of how the American energy landscape is evolving to meet today’s challenges and opportunities,” said Bennett Fuson, director, Energy Storage, American Clean Power Association. “ACP applauds DTE for the largest coal-to-storage conversion in the region, made stronger through partnership with LG: a Michigan storage project, powered by battery cells made in Michigan. Congratulations to DTE Energy on this well-deserved award!”
The Trenton Channel Energy Center will have the capacity to store 880 megawatt hours of energy each cycle, which is enough to power nearly 40,000 homes. Energy storage projects like this help ensure grid reliability and are a great complement to DTE’s growing renewable energy portfolio. In fact, our 2026 Integrated Resource Plan includes 4.5 gigawatts of new energy storage assets to support our journey to net zero carbon emissions.
