The Detroit Area Agency on Aging (DAAA) is proud to be a trusted resource for seniors in Metro Detroit. Its partnership with DTE Energy has been instrumental in meeting the ever-evolving needs of the senior community. Just ask CEO and President Ron Taylor.

“Our collaboration with DTE is a prime example of how working together can create meaningful and positive change in our community,” said Taylor. “By joining forces with The Heat and Warmth Fund (THAW) and Meals on Wheels, we’re addressing immediate needs like utilities and food scarcity, while building a foundation of support that helps seniors age safely and comfortably at home.”

In partnership with DTE, the DAAA works with THAW to offer heating assistance and home weatherization support to vulnerable households and Meals on Wheels to deliver thousands of meals to metro Detroiters during the holidays. Additionally, through this ongoing partnership of 15 years, seniors have access to education about energy assistance programs and critical resources to help with utilities, keeping them safe and warm all year long.

“As we continue to work together, I am confident that our shared mission will help improve the lives of many more seniors in metro Detroit. DTE is committed to addressing the concerns of older adults and it is truly commendable,” said Taylor. “We are grateful for DTE’s ongoing support as we navigate the challenges and opportunities facing our aging population.”

DTE works closely with federal, state and agency partners to get aid to our most vulnerable customers, including seniors. Over the last five years, the company helped connect customers to over $660 million in energy assistance. In the 2023-2024 fiscal year alone, DTE connected customers to nearly $144 million in financial aid for their energy bills.

For customers who qualify, DTE offers energy assistance programs that are focused on reducing customer energy usage to an affordable percentage of their income, reducing pre-existing arrears, protecting customers against bill volatility and directing customers to assistance in crisis-level situations. Through DTE’s Energy Efficiency Assistance program, which provided $63 million in critical upgrades to over 25,000 families in 2024, the organization is not just lowering energy bills – they’re providing warmth and security to homes, improving health and safety and strengthening neighborhoods.

By partnering with community organizations, we can reach families who need it most and deliver a lasting impact across Detroit and beyond. Explore how we’re making a difference in your community by visiting empoweringmichigan.com.
