DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by 2029.

As our work continues to build a stronger and smarter grid, our crews are busy executing infrastructure upgrades in Ann Arbor. Recently, our crews were at the corner of Arborview Boulevard and Doty Avenue on the northwest side of the city, carrying out these upgrades.

Specifically, our team was installing a new power pole with the accompanying pole top upgrades, such as new cross arms and new connectors. Additionally, our crews are installing a brand new recloser, a smart grid device which will greatly improve the safety and reliability for our residential customers in the area. These devices are essential in minimizing widespread outages caused by other equipment damage. Their ability to quickly pinpoint outage locations allow us to restore power to many customers promptly, even while our crews carry out the necessary repairs. These upgrades will provide much better reliability, especially during extreme weather situations.

These infrastructure improvements are central to our mission of reducing outages and enhancing the grid’s resilience and reliability. By modernizing our equipment, DTE is not only strengthening the current system but also preparing to meet the increasing electricity demands of the future. Our commitment to these efforts ensures that our customers receive the dependable service they deserve.

This smart grid installation and equipment upgrade work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
