DTE crews continued a project in Rochester Hills last week that will improve the system for local homes and businesses. We first told you about this project at the corner of Sheldon and Snell in its early stages (you can read that post here).

As you can see by the photos, our team has continued to make significant upgrades at this intersection with more advanced technology. The main equipment being installed is a top pole switch (or TPS as it’s called). A TPS is a switch that essentially allows the pole and the equipment on it to be operated remotely. The benefit to this enhancement is that if an outage were to occur, DTE could control its operation remotely, choosing to transfer its load or take other steps to keep serving power to the area. This ensures that power can be restored much faster and not have to wait for a crew to come on site.

This work is a continuation of our efforts to create a more resilient and reliable grid for our customers so that your power is there when you need it.

You may see more of our crews in the coming months as part of our accelerated electric reliability projects in your area, including more tree trimming and infrastructure updates. All these projects are underway to improve your service and reliability for the short- and long term.

Make sure to regularly check the Rochester Hills community page to learn more about what’s going on in your neighborhood. You can also follow DTE on Facebook and Twitter for even more updates and information.
