Our overhead crews worked on installing protective equipment to utility poles in the Farmington Hills area. Planners noticed arcing on trees near Dohany Drive and Power Road. Arcing is when wires are constantly rubbing against tree trunks or branches causing the tree in that area to turn black. If not taken care of, arcing can potentially damage the wires enough to cause power outages. To prevent the rubbing, tree guards are used. Tree guards are long, gray, cylinder-shaped pieces that swivel together to cover and protect the wires. These simple installments keep wires lasting longer for more reliable electricity.
You may see more of our crews in the coming months as part of our accelerated electric reliability projects in your area, including more tree trimming and infrastructure updates. All these projects are underway to improve your service and reliability for the short- and long term.
