Inclement weather caused a piece of electrical equipment called a stirrup to malfunction on a Farmington Hills utility pole. The “hot top” that hangs underneath the stirrup and power line melted. The damaged equipment caused close to 500 customers to temporarily lose power Thursday morning before crews fixed the problem by 10:30 a.m. The utility pole that was the source of the outage is located in the parking lot behind the Grand Tulane Hotel on the corner of Grand River Ave. and Tulane.
