On Friday, a DTE crew was called into a neighborhood near West Eight Mile Road and Southfield Road, after a customer noticed flickering lights in their home.

The crew determined that an undersized transformer was the cause of the issue. When the transformer was installed years ago, it was the appropriate size for customer needs in the area, but as energy use evolves over time, upgraded equipment is often needed. They replaced it with a correctly sized transformer without disrupting the customer’s service.

After the crew solved the issue, they inspected adjacent poles powering nearby homes to ensure the neighborhood’s power reliability.
