DTE & FIRST Robotics

At DTE Energy, we aspire to be a force for growth in the communities where we live and serve – and we recognize the importance of STEM education in helping our future leaders reach their full potential. That’s why we’re proud to invest our time and resources in FIRST Robotics, which teaches important life skills, and instills confidence and leadership that help our youth – and communities – thrive.

Investing in Our Future

Our partnership with FIRST helps prepare young people for a variety of rewarding career paths, including engineering, programming, IT, business and marketing, among others. Through the teamwork, creativity and problem-solving students learn during their FIRST experiences, they gain skills and perspective we look for in our company’s future leaders. In fact, many of our student interns have also been involved with FIRST, and we’ll continue to leverage the unique talents of these individuals to help us create Michigan’s clean energy future.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does DTE support FIRST Robotics?

DTE Energy employees and retirees offer their time and expertise to FIRST teams on all levels.

Employees and retirees who volunteer their time as mentors with a team, or volunteer at an event and meet application criteria, may apply for a McCarthy volunteerism award.

In-kind donations of time, space and support of initiatives have helped advance FIRST in Michigan’s mission and reach to thousands of students across Michigan communities where our employees live and serve.

Our team is advancing to the state championship and/or FIRST Championship, may we apply for financial support for this event(s)?

Teams may contact FIRST_Robotics_DTE@dteenergy.com to learn about additional funding opportunities.

How do I apply for event sponsorship?

The DTE Workforce Development team works directly with FIRST in Michigan to select events to sponsor within our DTE service territory. FIRST in Michigan will distribute funds for the events.

Our event requires volunteers. Is DTE able to provide personnel?

We put out regular calls to action to our DTE family to volunteer at events. Please contact us at FIRST_Robotics_DTE@dteenergy.com if your event requests volunteer support.

Does DTE offer internships or co-op positions for FIRST students?

DTE has student internship and co-op positions across Michigan for high school and college students. Each program has its own selection criteria.

Student programs are posted at https://careers.dteenergy.com on the student and graduate page. We recommend setting up an alert for new position postings.
